Hello Everyone! I am Erica and I am mommy to Hannah.. Hannah Banana. I am so excited to see the online community come to fruition ; this was an idea that sprung up about 6 years ago in the Parent Advisory Council and feel a sense of pride in contritbuting to this idea. It is a great way for all of us to connect and i am sure other hospitals across the board will see how beneficial this is and follow suit. My daughter Hannah has an inspiring story that started here with Winnie Palmer Hospital and with Arnold Palmer Hospital. I was due to prior pregnancy complications diagnosed about 20 week into my pregnancy with a daughter that would be born with serious complication to her heart. She was also going to be affected by another condition called Situs Inversus Totalis; complete organ opposite. Her story inspires me and and am proud to share it with others to inspire. Hannah’s has essentially a half a heart on the wrong side facing backwards with holes and plumbing in all the wrong places but technical names for her defects are the following:

HPRH = Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome
ASD = Atrial Septal Defect
VSD = Ventricle Septal Defect
TGA = Transposition of the Greater Arteries
PDA = Patent ductus arteriosus
Interrupted Aortic Arch
Hypoplastic Aortic Valve and Ascending Aorta
Tricuspid Atresia
Dextrocardia
Aortic Stenosis

Blood Disorder
MTHFR mutation = Methylenetetrahydro folate reductase (MTHFR) blood
disorder

Situs Inversus Totalis
– organs on the opposite side

Surgeries to Date:
Norwood 3 days old
Glenn 6 months old
Non-Fenestrated Fontan 4 year 10 months old

Despite all of these complications, she has an enormous amount of energy and a passion to enjoy life that warms the soul. She is doing fabulous in her cardiac and overall health and is a beautiful thriving 8 year old girl. This has a big part to do with the phenomenal care she has received at these two fine medical care facilities. Her time it he NICU at Winne and at APH was life saving and tough at times to endure but i am comforted to have witnessed both of these facilities taking a personal approach when it came to caring for my daughter that I will never forget or take for granted. It is AMAZING what DRs can do with these little hearts ♥ The Pediatric Cardiac Team at APH is absolutely wonderful and we are eternally greatfull; world class care and setting the bar high for those to follow!

Hi @seminolefanfsu1 – Thank you so much for sharing with us! Wow – Hannah has been through a lot in the past eight years, but she is a fighter! I am thrilled to hear how well she is doing – she is one special girl. I know that you both will be able to use her experiences to impact those who may be going through a similar situation. Thanks again for connecting with the rest of the group!
