Thank you so much for contacting me. My interest in this group stems from my grandson Ethan Jett. He is 12 years of age, will be 13 on December 24. At the beginning of 2014, Ethan had not been feeling well; had increase in sinus problems, mainly on the left side, severe headaches, and he was very tired all of the time. His parents took him to his pediatrician and they treated him for a sinus infection, and the treatment was not effective. Two months later, Ethan's condition was worsening, and at that time they took him to the emergency room at one of our local hospitals. Ethan was literally holding his head in pain and pacing the floor. His mother was beside herself and said "this is enough, something is really wrong." They changed doctors and he referred him to a specialist in Miami, which is about 5 hours from where they live. This specialist is highly skilled in the particular surgery that Ethan was to undergo. They found out that Ethan had a large growing tumor behind his eye, but when they tried to remove the tumor it was so close to the brain that all of it was not able to be excised. He also told him that time was a factor in his recovery; and said that if he had been referred 2 weeks later they would not have even attempted removing the tumor. After the surgery he was sent back to Arnold Palmer Hospital for the beginning of his treatment. He was started on chemotherapy and now a few months later he has begun his radiation treatments. He is doing well, but it has devastated our family. He now has 4 months to go. In that time, I have become very passionate about all of the beautiful and brave young children, who are so wonderful and full of hope and take their treatments with no complaints and much of an amazing attitude, and they are truly God's children. Didn't mean to make this so long, but I want to send love out to everyone who is going through this, and hope I can make new friends and find out more information about children's cancer. Thank you:) p.s. Arnold Palmer Hospital is the best!!!

Hi @mmoore46 - Thank you for sharing with the rest of the group. We are sorry to hear of the difficult journey you and your family have been faced with due to Ethan's diagnosis. However, I am encouraged to hear of your new found passion for children diagnosed with cancer and I know that you and your family will be a great support and encouragement to others going through a similar journey. We wish Ethan the very best in his remaining four months of treatment and hope that it provides him with the healing he needs. We look forward to connecting with you more in the future. Take care!

Hello Germaine,

I'm so sorry your son has to go through this journey. My son also has a brain tumor. His tumors are growing along his optic nerve and was effecting his vision. The doctors did not chose to do surgery because of the location of the tumors near his optic nerve. I know how the entire family feels; how your child can go through so much pain. My son will be starting treatment again this week; it will be outpatient treatments. Maybe we can meet and introduce our brave and strong children. I believe it makes this journey some much easier when their surroundings understand what they are going through.

Hi @csummerville Thank you for sharing with the rest of the group. We are so sorry to hear of your son's diagnosis. It sounds like he is a strong fighter and is going to fight against cancer with bravery and every bit of strength he has. We hope you find the support and encouragement you need as a part of this group, and perhaps you and @mmoore46 can meet at Arnold Palmer Hospital in the near future!
